About Tania
It’s about connection, not perfection.
I’m Tania Valentin – a British accent coach who has spent over two decades helping non-native English-speaking professionals feel as fully, confidently themselves in English as they do in their own language.
I won’t pretend this is just a job. I find pronunciation genuinely, unashamedly fascinating — the way sounds are made, why certain patterns are so difficult depending on where you’re from, the moment something clicks and a client hears themselves differently for the first time. I love this work. And that, I think, is part of why it works.
But I won’t just help you discover the sounds and intonation patterns of English. I’ll help you become a better and more confident communicator too.
MY STORY
I grew up in London with a Greek Cypriot father and a polyglot mother, surrounded by languages. For me, language was never just a school subject – it was a key that helped me understand the world.
That love of language took me far. I spent four years in Japan, over a year in Mexico, six months in Germany, as well as periods in Cuba and Malaysia. I lived and worked across cultures that couldn’t be more different from each other, or from London. I now speak five languages, including Japanese and Spanish, and I have raised my son bilingually. I understand the experience of finding your voice in another language – not just professionally, but personally and deeply.
When COVID arrived, I had been an English teacher, trainer and director of an English language school for many years. I made a decision that would change everything: to focus entirely on the thing I loved most about language teaching – pronunciation.
Before long, I realised that my clients were often asking for more than just help with how to pronounce sounds. I trained in Neurolanguage® Coaching (a brain-based approach that puts the client firmly in charge of their own learning) and founded Chat Naturally as the first accredited coach worldwide to combine British English accent coaching with this methodology. To understand spoken communication on an even deeper level, I completed a two-year Master’s degree in Voice Studies, qualifying with Distinction.
I kept going deeper, because I kept seeing what was possible – not just in terms of accent, but in terms of identity. For some clients, this work quietly shifts something much bigger: what they believe about themselves, what they think they’re capable of, how they feel they deserve to show up in the world. I find that extraordinary. And it’s why I love what I do.
MY ACCENT
I speak with a non-regional British accent — sometimes called Modern RP. I use this as our reference point not because it’s superior to any other accent, but because it’s a useful, clearly recognisable anchor. When you have a consistent model to work from, you can identify sounds accurately, understand where your own patterns differ, and make intentional choices about how you want to sound.
How your accent develops over time is entirely up to you. Many people end up with something wonderfully hybrid — and that’s completely fine. The goal isn’t to sound like me. It’s to give you enough clarity and awareness that you’re in control of how you come across, whatever direction that takes.
HOW I WORK
Every programme starts with understanding exactly where you are – your accent, your goals, your learning style. This is important for both of us. From there, we build a roadmap together.
Sessions are brain-friendly and built around how you learn best, and encourage you to play a major, active role in the process. That might mean we use phonemic script, because you love it – or we never mention it! It might mean coaching you through an emotional block before we move forward at all. You lead. I follow. Most clients enjoy the process much more than they expected – this is by design, because neuroscience tells us that we learn better when it’s enjoyable!
I also draw on voice work – breath, pace and how to use your voice – because truly effective communication is not just about whether you can pronounce fit and feet differently. I want to help you own your message, and feel more confident, more connected and more fully yourself every time you speak in English.
MY CREDENTIALS
My qualifications span an MFA in Voice Studies from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, a BA in Modern Languages, a DELTA (the advanced professional diploma in English Language Teaching), and certification as an Advanced Neurolanguage® Coach accredited by the International Coaching Federation (ICF). I have over twenty years of experience working with international professionals from Japan, France, Spain, Russia, Germany, China and many other language backgrounds.
